Wellness Tips

Connect with your spiritual side...

Our lives may be busy, sometimes it is difficult to balance out all aspects physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually. It is important to try and make some time to connect with your spiritual side. This can be going to church, following Buddhist beliefs, Native or Muslim beliefs or sitting in nature whatever feels right for you. Research has shown that people who have developed their spirituality either with other spiritual individuals or having their own personal mindful beliefs live longer, more satisfying peaceful lives. People who practice either through organized worship or simple meditation it assists them in providing focus, support, direction and reduces stress levels.

Do something enjoyable every day....

Our lives seem to be very hectic and busy with not much time left to do other things.  Sometimes our lives can feel like all work and no play. We need to be aware of this balance and try and create time for enjoyment. It is healthy to give yourself an opportunity everyday to do something positive, pleasurable and enjoyable for yourself. This can be giving yourself a 15 minute break to have a brisk walk in nature, read a book, have a quick manicure or spend your lunch hour sitting on the beach. By making time to enjoy yourself can greatly reduce your stress levels and increase well-being and health.

Hear Your Bodies Messages

When our body, mind and spirit are baanced we experience good health. However we sometimes get caught in a crises that cause us to focus in one area more than others. Then we can get out of balance.

Emotions are a way our bodies communicate with us. When you feel tired, but push yourself to keep going, your body may respond by being grumpy. If a relationship with a relative is stressful, your body may feel nervous before meeting them. Of course it works the other way too and the body will express happiness and joy in cheerful situations.

If we don’t listen to our bodies emotional signals when they are tired or stressed then a stronger message is required. The issue may then become expressed as illness or disease. The first step to regaining your equilibrium involves slowing down, eating healthy food and getting more rest. Once you have nurtured yourself, you can begin to listen to what your body is telling you by being sick.

For instance, digestive problems can indicate that you are having trouble “digesting” or accepting something. While inflammation in the joints may mean that you are judging yourself and others too harshly. Your back ache may be caused by a sense of having no emotional and financial support and a sore throat can indicate that you are not speaking up about something of concern.

At the heart of each illness is a core concept or way of thinking that does not serve you. Over time it has become solidified in your body. Luckily, you have the knowledge of your thoughts and actions to help you decipher the messages of your body. As well as all the power needed to create change by replacing the negative patterns with more positive and nourishing thoughts.

What is Stress?

Stress is a feeling that’s created when we react to particular events. It’s the body’s way of rising to a challenge and preparing to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness. When we are under stress, the body releases stress hormones that allow us to respond to the stressful situation. It may be a very happy occasion such as your daughter/son getting married or maybe you have lost a beloved pet, both situations can create a lot of stress in the body, mind and spirit. Stress may affect us by creating depression, anxiety, digestive problems and over long periods may of time create chronic disease.

There are many different methods for helping to induce the relaxation response, these includes relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, tai chi, deep breathing, visualization. With regular practice your body will start to respond by going into a more relaxed state and reduce your overall stress levels. Try and find something that you are comfortable with and that will suit your needs. It may be attending a yoga class, or doing in a 10 or 15 minute visualization or meditation at home. Stress is a natural part of life, but if we are able to learn techniques to cope and release stress then we will be able to stay calm and collected during stressful periods.
